Classical Schooling Part 1 DVD

Part 1: Horses in the Circus RingBea Borelle

Trainer and rider Bea Borelle first experienced horses performing tricks when watching the circus. She has found that training a horse tricks is fun for both horse and trainer, and the lessons add interest to the horse's everyday life, which often doesn't offer much in the way of variety.

In the first part of her two-DVD series, Borelle demonstrates basic exercises and tricks with different obstacles. In this DVD her focus is tricks with a humorous turn, as well as some of the classics. Her pony, Ben, is the star of the show, presenting the steps to success as well as the end result.

If Horses Could Speak

How Incorrect "Modern" Riding Negatively Affects HorsesDr.Gerd Heuschmann

THE HORSE’S BODY AS YOU’VE NEVER SEEN IT BEFORE!

This provocative and ground-breaking film, If Horses Could Speak, is based on the best-selling book Tug of War: “Modern” versus Classical Dressage—a book that shook the equestrian industry upon its initial release around the world. Now, you can take a step further into the examination of the horse’s “riding experience” and see just how specific kinds of movement and posture impact the horse’s skeleton and musculature.

Through the magic of amazing three-dimensional animation—as never-before-seen in an equestrian video of this kind—viewers are shown how the horse’s limbs, muscles, and ligaments interact at various gaits. In addition, live-action examples of riding, both good and bad, demonstrate the effect human beings have on their equine “partners.” Viewers are sure to be astounded by the direct role their riding has on their horse’s physical and mental health and well-being.

If Horses Could Speak includes interviews with professional riders, veterinarians, and academics who specialize in the study of the horse’s anatomy and how riders can best work with it, rather than against it. Plus, shocking clips from warm-up arenas around the world expose the dark side of competitive horse sport. Altogether an illuminating and eye-opening visual experience, this DVD is not to be missed by anyone who desires to train and ride horses in a way that nurtures and builds them up, rather than wears them out and tears them apart.

In-hand-work Part 1, Basics, Fritz Stahlecker

Fritz Stahlecker

Horses are like children: Their ability to learn is greater in the first years of their life. When horses are carefully and gently trained in-hand early on, their natural qualities of athleticism and charisma are developed, which allows for the potential of "perfection" in later training.

With his exceptional Hand-Saddle-Hand (HSH) Method, Fritz Stahlecker shows how to train dressage movements — from basic to advanced — with three-year-old horses. He does so gently, without any stress, and all the while keeping in mind important psychological impacts of the work. Using Stahlecker's method, when the horse is backed at the age of four, he will already know the under saddle exercises and will have developed the necessary muscles to carry a rider. Even after the horse is ridden, Stahlecker continues to train collection and cadence in-hand, which is ideal for the body and the soul of the horse.

Riding without a strong influence from the hands is what every rider should strive for. By working in-hand first, the young horse learns basic exercises without the rider's weight on his back and without a bit in his mouth. His mind is challenged, yet potential for resistance is avoided. Without wrong movements, no tension is created. Ultimately, the horse is ready for high performance training. All those who prefer to focus on aesthetics and creativity rather than the use of force and strength when training dressage horses will love this DVD series.

About the Author

Fritz Stahlecker has worked with horses, including many ìproblemî horses, since he was a child. He believes that many of today's training problems stem from an incorrect or even a violent use of the reins. With this as his premise, he has developed his own training method (HSH) and with it has successfully trained many horses up to advanced levels of dressage.

Basic Training for Riding Horses Vol. 1, The 4 year old horse, Ingrid Klimke

Volume 1: The Four Year Old HorseIngrid Klimke

When you conjure up the image of an athletic, forward-moving, and motivated dressage horse, and when you consider the training guidelines espoused by the German Equestrian Federation (FN), there is only one name that deserves to immediately come to mind: Ingrid Klimke. Klimke learned how to ride and train horses correctly, from the absolute basics right through to the highest technical levels, and continues in this vein today — single-mindedly, passionately, and with the utmost success in the disciplines of dressage, eventing, and show jumping.
In Klimke's three training DVDs, the Olympic champion shares her key ideas for the successful training of horses. The main components of her training method include dressage exercises to improve suppleness and collection; pole work (cavalletti); lower level jumping obstacles; and basic training for cross-country. Klimke is ably supported in the dressage training component by Major Paul Stecken.
This DVD focuses on the following:

  • Dressage: Exercises to improve extension; rhythm; relaxation; contact between the rider's hands and the horse's mouth; familiarization with rider aids; half- and full halts; transitions; signs of suppleness; first show ring experiences; and much more.
  • Pole work (cavalletti): Introduction to the technique and work on the longe line.
  • Jumping: First jumping obstacles; use of a lead horse; and gymnastic series.
  • Cross-country: Use of the safety seat; first jumping obstacles; introduction to water; work uphill and downhill.

About the Author

Ingrid Klimke is an Olympic and world champion who follows in the tracks of her famous father, the dressage legend, Dr. Reiner Klimke. She is the only professional rider in the world who rides successfully at the international level in both dressage and eventing. She trains by her father's famous motto: ìRiding should improve the beauty and strength of the horse.î With this in mind, Klimke trains her horses to be as versatile as possible. She believes that forcing young horses to specialize too soon can prevent them from developing to the best of their ability. Using a multi-disciplinary (cross-training) approach, she enhances their skills and compensates for their weaknesses. Under Ingrid Klimke's tutelage, your young horse will learn with enjoyment and enthusiasm. The training of horses should be fun, allowing both horse and rider to shine.

Classical versus Classique, Christoph Hess & Philippe Karl

Christoph Hess & Philippe Karl

French instructor Philippe Karl of the School of Légèreté (lightness) and Christoph Hess, head of the training department of the German National Equestrian Federation (FN), met in person and without mincing words to discuss their individual points of view using actual practical examples of different riders and horses in the riding arena.
The resulting and somewhat heated debate was captured on film with the aim of not only documenting it, but also of presenting the French and German schools of thought in a completely objective manner. With the help of this DVD, everybody can and should form their own opinion as to what "classic" riding really is.

Schooling a Horse Part 1, Lungeing and Breaking-in, Rudolf Zeilinger

Rudolf Zeilinger

"To avoid any restriction on a horse's natural harmony and grace, but rather to encourage its suppleness and sheer pleasure in its own movements" is the ultimate aim of Rudolf Zeilinger, one of the most talented pupils of the late Willi Schultheis, and himself a trainer of Olympic and World Championship horses. Rudolf Zeilinger is well-known for the gentle and sensitive way he trains dressage horses, encouraging them to develop a relaxed, confident, and athletic way of going, combined with a happy, forward-thinking attitude in their work.

Part 1 of Zeilinger's Schooling a Horse series covers the first seven weeks of the training of two four-year-old horses. Their work focuses on the first three elements of the Training Scale — rhythm, suppleness, and contact — demonstrating how quickly and confidently horses can adapt to being ridden without losing their natural movement and presence.

Format: DVD, run time 55 mins
ISBN: 4260000130039

About the Author

Rudolf Zeilinger was already addicted to horses at an early age, and he rode everything he could get under saddle on this parents’ farm; small ponies and big horses, well-tempered, experienced horses and lively greenhorns, temperamental and calm four-legged animals. Everything was all right as long as it was a HORSE! It was clear that his future career would be on a horse’s back. He apprenticed with the Pferdezentrum/Horse Center Ansbach to become a professional riding master. Then the 10 most important years of his life followed: He became the pupil of the legendary Willi Schultheis and built up an excellent reputation as successful rider. One of his most important successes was certainly when he won the German Championships in 2001. Parallel to his own riding career, Zeilinger established himself as coach, and besides successful individual riders, he first coached the American team and then the Danish national team. In 1993, Rudolf Zeilinger took the plunge into self-employment and founded the Zeilinger Pferdesport GmbH. Meanwhile living in Emsbühren, Zeilinger is considered as first-class address when it comes to training riders and horses at the highest level and establishing them into advanced level sport.

Schooling a Horse Part 2, Basic training in the First Year, Rudolf Zeilinger

In Part 2 of his Schooling a Horse series, Zeilinger demonstrates the continuation of early training introduced in Part 1, and he shows work to develop impulsion, straightness, and collection. The benefits of having established the principles of early training are evident in the way the horses on the DVD accept the demands of more difficult exercises, while maintaining their motivation and obvious enjoyment of the work.
This DVD includes an introduction to work in the outdoor arena and with other horses, as well as a young horse's first showing experience.

Schooling a Horse Part 3, Lateral Work as a key to success, Rudolf Zeilinger

Rudolf Zeilinger

To avoid any restriction on a horse's natural harmony and grace, but rather to encourage its suppleness and sheer pleasure in its own movements is the ultimate aim of Rudolf Zeilinger, one of the most talented pupils of the late Willi Schultheis, and himself a trainer of Olympic and World Championship horses. Rudolf Zeilinger is well-known for the gentle and sensitive way he trains dressage horses, encouraging them to develop a relaxed, confident, and athletic way of going, combined with a happy, forward-thinking attitude in their work.

For Zeilinger, lateral work is an essential element in a horse's dressage training. In Part 3 of his Schooling a Horse series, he demonstrates lateral work with his own horses, explaining when to begin, what requirements have to be fulfilled, and how he works with his horses on an individual basis, as they all vary greatly in temperament, as well as training level. In an impressive presentation, the viewer is able to experience how Zeilinger's horses achieve constantly increasing levels of elasticity, impulsion, and suppleness as a result of lateral work.

Schooling a Horse Part 4, Counter Canter, Flying Changes and Canter Pirouettes, Rudolf Zeilinger

The counter canter and flying changes are the main focus in Part 4 of Zeilinger's DVD series Schooling a Horse. The extremely successful dressage trainer once again affords us the opportunity to see how he works with his horses. Learning flying changes, for example, is difficult for many horses. Zeilinger realistically shows us how even that initially struggle with this lesson can eventually learn it without experiencing stress in the process. Canter work up to the level of half passes, canter pirouettes, and tempi changes is included.

Schooling a Horse Part 5, Achieving Collection, Piaffe and Passage, Rudolf Zeilinger

Collection is the magic ingredient that allows the horse's movement, with continued training, to become more elevated and expressive. Even if you do not necessarily aspire to one day riding a Grand Prix test, this DVD will provide valuable help to improve your horse's movement in the trot and canter; increase the smoothness of the steps he takes; and create optimal elasticity. Of course, the ultimate dream of many a dressage rider is riding the perfect piaffe and passage, with the horse" dancing" in a way that appears effortless and deceptively "light." In Part 5 of his Schooling a Horse series, Rudolf Zeilinger shows his sensitive training method for achieving these two movements, and he provides interesting hints for getting the best from your horse. This DVD is a valuable guide for both amateurs and professionals.
