Douglas has traveled and trained internationally, and has successfully taught many horses to the Grand Prix. He enjoys coaching his students at regional competitions and conducting clinics across the United States and Canada. His instruction is steeped in theory from the masters and is crafted for what the horse and rider need in the exact present moment. He insists on his riders possessing a solid framework, even if it means intensely focusing on the basics, and for the dedicated student, this approach has proven to produce phenomenal results. He is able to help a rider feel masterful moments, and able to teach his riders how to tactfully encourage the best out of their horses. His passion is preserving the classical art of dressage by helping his students become successful and compassionate riders.
He is the author of the popular and insightful The Seven Deadly Sins of Dressage, a book highly recommended by top judges and professionals. His book challenges the rider take an introspective approach, which serves to help riders of all disciplines improve.
